It depends on your body chemistry, but yes, it is very possible. I have heard from several professional hairstylists that your hair changes approx. every 7 years. When I was born, and for my first few years, I had curly hair like shirley temple. Then from about 6-18 I had stick-straight hair. Now I'm 23 and have my spiral ringlets back.

I have curly hair myself too and I know how hard it is to have a curly hair. Might I say we are naturally lucky. I had my hair cut last week, from my half back to jaw line and it came out perfect and not dreary anymore.

My hair right now: shorter in back, to the chin in front, and with long bangs that can be worn down, parted in the center or sides. The angled cut gives my hair more volume while bringing out the natural curl in my locks.

Hi,

I'm a mom of a five-year-old daughter with long curly hair (Euro-American background). Here's what I do to keep her hair nice...

1. Must wash and comb out at least every other day, otherwise it gets too tangled.

2. Use a good conditioner (I like some of the Pantene offerings). Rinse it out.

3. Before you comb it, use a detangler (look in the kids' hair section for the bright spray bottles) or put a small amount of conditioner on your hands, rub together, and rub through your hair.

4. Use a wide-tooth comb to comb it out. Another good trick from my own childhood, which involved long hair and daily swims in a chlorinated pool: comb from the bottom. By that, I mean take a section of hair and of that take the last inch and comb it out. Then move up to the last two inches, and so on until you get to the roots. When you come to a tangle, instead of trying to force the comb through it, keep the hair in the comb and with the comb hold the hair taught. Then, use your fingers to pull the hair backwards through the comb. It gets out the tangle and doesn't hurt at all. Keep going like that to comb all of your hair.

The conditioner that works well is called Pantene breakage defense. But for me, it makes my hair too flat for daily use. So maybe keep it around for an occasional knotty hair day and use a lighter conditioner for daily use.

Another good curly hair product is "big curls" in an orange canister made by Samy salon systems.

Layers help too. Also, make sure you get a trim every three months at least, or otherwise the ends will tangle more easily.

With my daughter, I pin back her hair just a bit to keep it from looking shabby, but you don't have that option (probably). You could blow dry it with a big, round brush to give it more shape, provided you have layers. But if a guy has long, curly hair, it really looks best if it drip dries after combing.

Finally, Bedhead makes a product called Manipulator. It comes in a jar. Dip your finger in, rub it around your hands, and then work it through your hair by starting at the crown (the top back) and fluffing your hair with your fingers.

Blow dry it while brushing. It'll dry straight, but will be pretty floofy. You could also just let it dry naturally, and straighten only sections, and do a spiffy little updo. The contrasting textures would look pretty nifty.

Well, I dont have any pics, but herbal essense has a great amount of shampoos and conditioners to make your hair straighter. Without a straightener, you will probably get wavy hair or some what straight hair, it wont be perfect, it really depends on the thickness and curliness of your hair.

This is what i did. Japanese straightening is good and all, but it is way too expensive. It costs hundreds of dollars i think, so just try this method. =] it should give you the same results.

First, go to a local drugstore and go buy a home perming kit.

Then, follow all the steps except you dont put the curlers in your hair.

Your hair should turn from really curly to dead straight. But make sure you relaly do want straight hair, because this stuff is permanent.

If you use a permanent but don't roll it up, it will straighten your hair. You have to buy it at a beauty supply and definitely have them recommend the most gentle perm before you try it. Tell them what you want to do.

Try a relaxer..? Depends on what type of hair you have though???

They normally have these kiosk's in the mall where they have this straightening comb... kind of like a flat. iron. That works really well on ALL types of hair....black, white, Asian, any kind. Its really great and doesn't damage you hair.

First, see your beautician at least every 6 weeks for a professional quality relaxer or texturizer. Do not rely on a home kit, seek an experienced professional.

Next see your beautician every two weeks for a shampoo and deep conditioning and ask your beautician's advice for what products to use to maintain your look between visits.

I recommend styles that are either wrapped or rolled, and you must commit to wrapping/rolling on a nightly basis. Use smooth magnetic rollers only, not fabric, sponge, or velcro. Those are just asking for frizz! Overnight, cover hair with a silk or satin scarf or cap and switch to silk/satin pillow cases. Other materials create friction which can lead to both frizz and breakage.

If you're not interested in chemical processes (relaxing, texturizing, etc.) You have 4 new best friends. A high quality blow dryer with a diffuser attachment (I like the Gold'n Hot brand), a vented brush, a high quality ceramic plate flat iron 1 inch wide or less (I got an inexpensive one by conair at walmart that has a turbo boost feature. works great, but I've had to buy 3 in the last two years. good thing they're not expensive) , and oil sheen. After washing and conditioning your hair, wrap it in a towel to absorb most of the moisture and cut back on the amount of heat applied to your hair. When hair is slightly damp, but before it begins to frizz, begin blow drying small sections between the dryer and your vented brush working downward from root to tip with the blow dryer on top of the hair and the brush underneath. For added protection, use a lightweight product designed to protect your hair from overexposure to heat which can also be damaging to your hair. Once the hair is dry, lightly spray both sides of a small section with the oil sheen and and then slowly press it from root to tip with the flat iron. Working in small sections insures that each hair is being treated and not missed, that's why I recommend the smaller flat irons. mine I think is only maybe 3/4 of an inch wide.

Now this method is much more cost efficient than bi-weekly trips to the salon but it takes so much more time. For my shoulder length hair, I know that washing it is an automatic 3 hour time committment. What's your time worth? I've done it both ways and alternate between the two depending on my mood. I've gone nearly a year without chemicals; I've spent every other Thursday or Saturday afternoon in the salon. What it comes down to is personal choice. Which is going to best fit your lifestyle?

ok my hair is naturally curly also. using hairspray isn't going to make your hair curly again. i use vo5 curling mouse to keep my curls less frizzy and smooth and i also use dove. there is some wonderful stuff called bouncy creme, i dont where you are so i cant say that a salon would have it but you could ask. if your hair is long and is going straight that way then get your hair cut. even just the tips helps or you can get layers put in which will lighten the weight of the hair and it will curl your hair up. hope this help!

Hi,

I'm a mom of a five-year-old daughter with long curly hair (Euro-American background). Here's what I do to keep her hair nice...

1. Must wash and comb out at least every other day, otherwise it gets too tangled.

2. Use a good conditioner (I like some of the Pantene offerings). Rinse it out.

3. Before you comb it, use a detangler (look in the kids' hair section for the bright spray bottles) or put a small amount of conditioner on your hands, rub together, and rub through your hair.

4. Use a wide-tooth comb to comb it out. Another good trick from my own childhood, which involved long hair and daily swims in a chlorinated pool: comb from the bottom. By that, I mean take a section of hair and of that take the last inch and comb it out. Then move up to the last two inches, and so on until you get to the roots. When you come to a tangle, instead of trying to force the comb through it, keep the hair in the comb and with the comb hold the hair taught. Then, use your fingers to pull the hair backwards through the comb. It gets out the tangle and doesn't hurt at all. Keep going like that to comb all of your hair.

The conditioner that works well is called Pantene breakage defense. But for me, it makes my hair too flat for daily use. So maybe keep it around for an occasional knotty hair day and use a lighter conditioner for daily use.

Another good curly hair product is "big curls" in an orange canister made by Samy salon systems.

Layers help too. Also, make sure you get a trim every three months at least, or otherwise the ends will tangle more easily.

With my daughter, I pin back her hair just a bit to keep it from looking shabby, but you don't have that option (probably). You could blow dry it with a big, round brush to give it more shape, provided you have layers. But if a guy has long, curly hair, it really looks best if it drip dries after combing.

Finally, Bedhead makes a product called Manipulator. It comes in a jar. Dip your finger in, rub it around your hands, and then work it through your hair by starting at the crown (the top back) and fluffing your hair with your fingers.

I think it would look okay, but...

-A ******* shade looks better on really dark brown, not black. It still looks pretty good though. Also, any vibrant [as in non-hair color] color fades really quickly. You should try extensions.

But the "curly" factor would help it show in a really unique way. Most girls [and guys] who have an edgy style like that have their hair pin-straight, which looks great, but is too overdone.

I have natural curly hair and I wear it down daily. Like you I used to have problems with the dry frizzies. Now what I do is wash my hair, towel dry, apply mouse( I use one that is for curly hair), I then scrunch, then I use a spritz hairspray. Sometimes I blow dry it and add more spritz, other times I allow it to dry naturally. I have not had any problems with frizz in many years! Good luck hope that helps you! Try Ouidad products available at any drugstore. Sleep with a silk scarve around the bulk of your hair. This will help reduce the volume of your hair. Curly hair should be washed every 3-4 days, not sooner.

You need to keep moisture in your hair. Using a good leave in conditioner over night every 2nd night is a good start. It's not going to be perfect straight away, good hair takes time and you need to find what products work good for you.

After washing and conditioning your should avoid harsh brushing, use a wide toothed comb or your fingers just to separate your curls.

Use a strong hold gel or cream and scrunch it through your hair, Your may have to do this once or twice during the day to keep that moisture up.

If you use gel make sure you wash your hair very well so you don't get dandruff!

My hair is very curly and when I want to leave it down I wash it that morning and comb it out and I use Vavoom forming gel. I think it is made by Matrix. I get it at the salon. I use a lot of it, but my hair is long. Then after I put the gel in, I use my fingers to kinda separate the curls, I even hang my head upside down and shake it out. Then I use a curl boosting spray that i get at walmart. Then I dry it a little with a diffuser,not much and then let it air dry the rest of the way. I have nice curls the rest of the day and no frizz or puffiness. But I dont brush it after that and it stays curly all day. Hope this helps.

I have Curly hair and i hate the frizay and puffy hair I get at the end of the day as well. So what I now do is I change my hair care products ever couple of weeks and I use Garnier Fructis PURE FIX Gel. It works great and you dont need to much so you get the crunchy hair at all. Blow dry it while brushing. It'll dry straight, but will be pretty floofy. You could also just let it dry naturally, and straighten only sections, and do a spiffy little updo. The contrasting textures would look pretty nifty.

Well, I dont have any pics, but herbal essense has a great amount of shampoos and conditioners to make your hair straighter. Without a straightener, you will probably get wavy hair or some what straight hair, it wont be perfect, it really depends on the thickness and curliness of your hair.

This is what i did. Japanese straightening is good and all, but it is way too expensive. It costs hundreds of dollars i think, so just try this method. =] it should give you the same results.

First, go to a local drugstore and go buy a home perming kit.

Then, follow all the steps except you dont put the curlers in your hair.

Your hair should turn from really curly to dead straight. But make sure you relaly do want straight hair, because this stuff is permanent.

If you use a permanent but don't roll it up, it will straighten your hair. You have to buy it at a beauty supply and definitely have them recommend the most gentle perm before you try it. Tell them what you want to do.

Try a relaxer..? Depends on what type of hair you have though???

They normally have these kiosk's in the mall where they have this straightening comb... kind of like a flat. iron. That works really well on ALL types of hair....black, white, Asian, any kind. Its really great and doesn't damage you hair.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Use a teaspoon of every oil and honey,.... a little more if ur hair is long or a little less if ur hair is short

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed, fortify, reconstruct, moisturize, soften %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can also use a conditioner but get a light conditioner that wont wiegh ur hair down, becuz u can over condition, I use herbl essences "clean happy" conditioner.

When I do this at nite, I wake up, shampoo %26amp; condition, rinse and style as usual. Has worked for years

A few tricks for curly hair.

Do not tease curly hair it makes it angry (frizzy).

Do not brush curly hair when it is dry- only when wet.

Do not touch or mess with curly hair once it is dry- if you do you will make it angry and frizzy.

Wash it only every few days.

Use cheap shampoo and conditioners- they leave residue that makes hair less frizzy. I like Salon Selectives.

Use expensive gels and use it when it is wet. I use confixor and elixor from Aveda.

if it gets frizzy there is no fixing it except to get it wet and start over or give up and wear a hat.

get a haircut. You probably just have split ends. Slick on some frizz eaze or other anti frizz serum when your hair is wet, and if its really bad right after you style rub some into your hair. I have extremely thick, extremely curly hair that always breaks, and that seems to keep it in check for the most part. Also, don't wash too often, and always condition.

Keep you hair moisturized, and use a curl enhancing shampoo. Herbal Escence makes a really good one called Totally Twisted, in the purple bottles. It really does work. I also use a mouse in my hair for curly hair named Studioline Springing Curls by Loreal. It provides just enough weight to my curls to keep them from looking poodle-esque. I feel your pain, my hair is crazy curly as well. These things work really well for me, even in high humidity weather.

it's called LINAZA in spanish(it looks like bird food. I have now clue what is called in English..but you could go to a Mexican grocery store..and find it there. I agree with the above person, they have a bunch of different tricks they use.. but you can use the hot rollers, foam rollers, or get you a large barrelled curling iron (a good quality one). When you go to dry your hair, use mousse, it gives it some hold when you start the curling process. Finish off with some hairspray and pray it doesnt rain!

Hairdressers on movie sets will use loads of tricks we simply don't have time to do. They will set the hair in rollers and then finish up with a curling iron. Sometimes...they'll do the reverse. They also use weird objects to create curls and waves like those foams things you put in between toes to apply your nail polish...it sounds crazy...but creates GREAT waves.

To keep it simple...try rollers. You can create a tigth or loose curl...you decide.

She has good tips for taking care of curls as well. You may want to also try oiling.....you mist your hair and then run coconut oil through it. It helps to condition your hair throughout the night, and it rinses out easily in the morning.

If you wanted something different try partial highlights and a different tone of brown lowlights. It will give dimension and the look of shine. However unless you want the upkeep, just keep doing the color shine.

i also have dark brown curly hair and the problem with having it straight is when it gets the slightest bit damp your in trouble right........i find that once its dried to also define your curls a little if you do not opt for any other colours to be added to your hair is a bit of wax.............or what i do at times is once its dried use a little bit of mousse this also works wonders........good luck and have a blinding night whatever.........happy birthday

scrunch in a little moisturizing gel for extra hold because the soft curl creme doesnt have a lot of holding power, i like fanatasia ic pink gel.

let air dry until about 80% dry

dry with dryer using a diffuser attachment

i use aussie sprunch spray to finish

sleep with it in a high loose ponytail on the top of your head.

use a satin pillowcase to avoid frizzies

touch up your curls each day curl by curl (the curls that need it) with a little bit of water, gel, conditioner, or pomade.

this has been my routine for a while now. I get great curls for 2-3 days and nice curls that i can pull into a ponytail for about 1-2 days.
